eDevelopment.......It's time for your check up

04th July 2022

The eDevelopment service has been in operation since 2016 and has received over 1.2 million submissions from users. We are committed to ensuring that the eDevelopment service operates at a high standard until a future replacement service comes online.

What is the check-up?

To ensure that the eDevelopment service continues to operate as intended, we undertake 6-monthly check-ups. This vital tool helps us maintain the service, and identify and act upon potential issues before they become serious.

Theses check-ups are much like a person having a doctor's check-up or conducting a service and MOT on your car - they are proactive and aimed at ensuring that the service continues to perform as it should until it eventually retires.

What does the check-up look at?

The check-up follows a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to gauge how the service is performing. These indicators include the number of submissions and user sessions each day, average page load times, the number of users accessing the fee calculators, the suitability of the storage and memory capacities of our databases, amongst many others.

What have we learned about the service so far?

A lot. While the service is still performing very well overall, it is now 6 years old and these check-ups have proved a valuable tool in flagging potential issues. This has allowed us to focus our support and maintenance activities on these areas.

For example:

  • A relatively high proportion of queries for our Support Desk team are from users having account and password issues. While these can be easy for our team to resolve, we are looking at how we can head these off at the source.
  • There is a growing proportion of users who access our site from mobile devices. This is an area that we want to improve on for the current service and ensure that any future replacement service is ‘mobile friendly’.

We’d like to hear from you
